BAMBER REVIEW

The 'Boro' returned to winning ways in the league with a hard fought 1-0 win over their Lancashire rivals Bamber Bridge on Saturday, playing their fourth game in a week the 'Boro' started brightly and conducted the pace of the first half, however they were disappointed with the officials decision to award a penalty to the home side in what looked a normal challenge and against the run of play it gave the home side the opportunity to take the lead, this was not taken when keeper Rigby made an excellent save which for the 'Boro' seemed justice was forthcoming. The 'Boro' had opportunities themselves but these were half chances that were blocked or when in excellent positions the final ball was missing and the half ended all square. Director of Football Gerry Luczka said, "I thought we started very well and throughout the first half we played some good football again, it was important we started well and we were much more concentrated in our defending. I thought the penalty decision was awful but it was an excellent save from Lloyd, we just needed the final ball from some of our build up play to be better and we would have seen some rewards."

The second half saw Bamber pick up the pace and they pushed further forward onto the 'Boro's back line and it became difficult for the 'Boro' to push forward, however despite some excellent defending Rigby in the 'Boro' goal was only called into action twice, once to turn a cross onto the bar and an outstanding save in added time. It was the 'Boro' who had the clearer opportunities and one of these was a well worked move involving four players down the right hand side which resulted in a neat finish from Roscoe (pictured) - his ninth goal in ten games - to put the away side one nil up. The 'Boro' then had to withstand a lot of aerial pressure from the home side with balls into the box but they defended these well and found time to create some opportunities on the counter attack. The game ended shortly after the save from Rigby to give the 'Boro' three well earned points against an equally hard working home side, director of football Gerry Luczka said, "We had to defend well in the second half and were put under pressure to defend and win the first ball in the box which we did very well." Luczka added "We got a bit tired towards the end which was understandably with the games played and with lads also working during that time, sometimes you have to be realistic in your expectations. The players were fantastic in their approach and attitude to wanting to keep what they had earned, you never get an easy game against a side managed by Tony (Greenwood) and today proved that. We wish Tony and his lads the best of luck for the rest of the season."

Having earned the win Luczka was pleased with all his players and said, "The lads just lost a little of their patience during the second half and started to force and get it forward much to early which resulted in giving the ball away when we needed to try and retain possession and play to our strengths which shown through the goal we scored which was an excellent move. It is not our style to get it forward early in that manner and we don't have the players for that, we need to continue to do what we do best. The players deserve great credit for what they have achieved in the past week and we now move onto another difficult game on Tuesday against Trafford."
