BURY PREVIEW The 'Boro' open their pre-season schedule with the visit of Bury FC on Tuesday 13th July kick off 7.45pm. The annual pre-season fixture always draws a sizeable crowd as supporters come to view possible new signings for both sides. Alan Knill always fields his full first team squad and puts on show any new possible recruits his club will be looking to sign. Bury – whose reserves will be playing at Stainton Park this season – have already played their opening pre-season game losing at home to Burnley 3-0 and will be looking to improve on that performance at the home of their non-league neighbours. Director of Football Gerry Luczka said, "It is very early for us we have only been back in since July 1st and had 4 sessions but the fixture is always competitive and in terms of fitness we do feel it helps us enormously. Alan always shows respect for us in the players he uses which is normally all the first team squad and we have always competed very well against them." Luczka added, "Not only do the management staff show us respect, the supporters of Bury always seem to enjoy their visit to our club and it is very much appreciated by everyone at the club." The 'Boro' will be without 4 first team players who all jetted off for their summer holidays this week and injury to last season's player and players player of the year Steve Howson means it will be a tough task, "As I have said before holiday's are part and parcel of non-league football, we have some players to look at both young and experienced and we are looking forward to the game very much." The game kicks off at 7.45pm and it is £7.00 for adults, £5.00 for concessions and FREE for all children accompanied by an adult. The raffle draw and the golden goal income will all be donated to the development fund for the new spectator entrance and refreshment bar. GENERAL MEETING Supporters are reminded there will be a 'General Club' meeting for all supporters on Monday July 19th at the 'Boro Club' 7.00pm. This is a meeting which will provide the opportunity for all supporters to ask any open questions on any area of the club to the club officials, it will hopefully be a very informative meeting. The club are hoping that all supporters who would attend a normal home game will make the effort to attend. The club will only be holding two or three of these meetings a year, so please make every effort to attend. ACCRINGTON GAME OFF The pre-season home fixture against Accrington Stanley on Saturday 17th July has been postponed due to unforeseen circumstances. This means the next home pre-season game will be against Manchester City FC on Wednesday August 11th. CUP DRAW REACTION Director of Football Gerry Luczka was philosophical in relation to the recently announced cup draws, In the FA Cup 'Boro' have been drawn at home to last season's league runners-up Lancaster City with the winners travelling to Gigg Lane to play FC United, "It is a difficult draw for us and they are a very good side as last season proved, to miss out with 96 points was soul destroying for them, we played well against them without any of the results going in our favour and we felt we deserved more but it was not to be, but it will also be difficult for Lancaster which I am sure they will be aware of. The game for the winners will be financially rewarding which makes it all the more exciting." said Luczka. The FA Trophy draw sees the 'Boro' host the winners of the Leigh Genesis and Garforth game, "It will again be another difficult game and being from the same division we should know each other well, at least we are at home and we have to try and make that count in our favour. Both ties are financially rewarding and just winning both games could be a big boost to the finances of the club this coming season." CHIEF EXECUTIVE RETIRES The club sadly announced that Chief Executive David Murgatroyd has retired. After making a very hard decision upon his return from holiday he has decided to call time on his 35 years in football with immediate effect. It was felt Murgatroyd would see out his 36th and final season but he has decided he wanted to spend more time with his family and the club fully respects the decision he has made. Further information and details will appear in a forthcoming news piece on Dave or 'Murgy' as he was known to all the supporters. Hopefully he will still be seen at some of the 'Boro' games this coming season and on behalf of the club and I am sure all the supporters would like to join us in thanking Dave for his time, effort and commitment to the cause and we wish him the best of health and good fortune in his retirement with his immediate family.
