BURY REVIEW

BURY REVIEW

The 'Boro' can feel satisfied with their first pre-season outing with a 1-0 win over league neighbours Bury. The all important goal was scored by Tom Brooks just a minute into the second half. Bury took the opportunity to view a number of players who were looking to earn a contract along with one or two of their first year professionals. Both camps would have felt the game provided them with some early answers, Bury manager Alan Knill will have had the opportunity to view potential new signings whilst Gerry Luczka will have been pleased with his charges discipline and pockets of good football played. In truth there was little difference between the two sides which is credit to the 'Boro'. Director of Football Gerry Luczka said, "It was not the usual first team line up they bring but we expected that with the game they had against Burnley on Saturday and Alan (Knill) obviously wanted to give more play time to potential new signings who could line up for them this season. Normally when we play them, it is their first outing, but let's take nothing away from their players on show who were trying to make an impression to earn a contract and were all from a full time league background." Luczka added, "I thought we started slowly which was to be expected as we had only had three two hour sessions so far, so I was delighted with our work ethic and I thought our discipline in defending was very good. As the game moved on we found our 'second wind ' and began to settle down, I thought it was a performance we can be happy with and the result a bonus."

The 'Boro' who themselves were without five first team regulars from last season took the opportunity to introduce a number of new players and Luczka was encouraged by their first performance, "It is obviously early days but the new lads did not do themselves any harm and we look forward to giving them a further outing in the next three games."

The crowd of just short of five hundred and twenty were treated to an entertaining game and Luczka was full of praise for the Bury supporters, "It was a very good gesture from the Bury supporters especially playing Burnley last Saturday and Huddersfield this weekend, again they turned out as they always do, they seem to enjoy their visit to our club and on behalf of the club I would like to extend our appreciation to all the Bury supporters who attended the game, I would also like to wish Alan(Knill) his staff and players  the best of luck this season."

The 'Boro's next game is not until Saturday 31st July when they visit local neighbours Ramsbottom United at the Riverside ground which is a 3.00pm kick off.

The club are hoping that all supporters who would attend a normal home game will make the effort to attend. The club will only be holding two or three of these meetings a year, so please make every effort to attend. If you cannot attend but would like a question asked on the evening please send it to the club via the usual channels.

DURHAM CITY FC AWAY TRIP

The club have announced they will be providing a coach  free of charge for all the clubs supporters to Durham City FC. The date has now been announced - Saturday 23rd October -  and the club are asking supporters to book their places with a refundable £10.00 deposit to ensure commitment to the FREE booking. The club are aware this is by far the longest away trip and as such for the tremendous away support they have had in previous seasons, the club would like to make this gesture as a thank you. The supporters will need to fill the coach to be cost effective, which we are sure they will and make it full day out. TGOTT will be helping to organise the trip and of course any supporters who would like to make the trip can contact us direct via the channels below.
